Just 25 miles north of Salt Lake is Antelope Island State Park, which boasts 36 miles of hiking and biking trails. It’s also an internationally certified dark sky park, which means it offers an optimal stargazing experience. It’s home to free-ranging bison, bighorn sheep, and antelope, so visitors should be aware of their surroundings for their own safety, as well as that of the animals.

Catch a sunset on Ensign Peak. This trailhead is situated at the top of a residential area in SLC above the Utah state capitol building. It’s a great way to view the city and the mountain range.

About 90 minutes west of SLC, you’ll find the Bonneville Salt Flats, a unique landform that stretches over 30,000 acres. The salt flats are a desert expanse of flat white salt crystals—the only remnants of the ancient Lake Bonneville.
