Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort is Paradise in Poipu

During our last few days of our Kauai trip, we got the chance to stay at the famed Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort, Kauai’s closest hotel accommodation to the waterfront. This intimate resort is perfect for a romantic getaway, capturing the essence of Hawaiian culture with a comfort that embodies the aloha spirit.

Located in Po’ipu, which means “crashing waves” in Hawaiian, the 121-room resort features luxurious amenities, an award-winning restaurant, and endless fun in the water. Po’ipu is sunny throughout most of the year, and is the sunniest part of the island of Kauai. This is important for sun-seekers, as Kauai is one of the wettest places on earth! Our room was an oceanfront guest room perched above the beautiful beach with unobstructed views of the Pacific.

Sunsets at Ko’a Kea are a delight. With a view of golden beaches and sandy shores, and hundreds of feet of oceanfront to enjoy, it’s no wonder that Ko’a Kea has been voted a Top 3 resort in Hawaii by Travel + Leisure Magazine.

We enjoyed dinner at Red Salt, located in the Ko’a Kea lobby. Red Salt was recently voted the #1 restaurant in Kauai by Honolulu Magazine. Nothing like a gorgeous view—in this case the pool and ocean—while sippin’ on tasty cocktails and delicious food.

For her main course, Carleigh ordered the world-famous $50 burger at Red Salt. I know what you’re thinking: $50 for a burger?! I don’t blame you, as we had to double-check the price on the menu to make sure we were seeing it right. However, and I can’t believe I am saying this, but the $50 burger was worth every penny.

Made of ground sirloin, lobster claw meat, foie gras, sweet & sour pineapple and bacon, the burger was accompanied by incredible truffle fries, and an aioli sauce covered in 14kt gold flakes! This wasn’t just a burger, it was a culinary experience.

After dinner, we came back to relax at our hotel room, and waiting for us was a mai-tai set! We really enjoyed making our own cocktails and had a friendly competition of who’s mai-tai would turn out best. Carleigh won, of course.

The bathrooms at Ko’a Kea are quite luxurious. The elevated bath experience is relaxing and serene, and the resort staff even delivered rose petals for a complete spa-like treatment. It made for quite a photogenic bath as well!

The view of the gorgeous ocean from the south shore of Kauai is such a treat to wake up to, especially when it can be enjoyed while eating breakfast from the balcony. The delicious (and healthy!) breakfast was delivered to our room and consisted of oatmeal, fruits, eggs and coffee.

After breakfast, we went down to the beach to enjoy an ocean-side massage by the wonderful staff of the Spa at Ko’a Kea Hotel. The Spa also features 5 treatment rooms, including a romantic couples suite. There is also an in-room treatment option!

Hope you enjoyed our tour of Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort. If you’re planning a trip to Kauai, especially as a couple or romantic outing, we highly recommend staying at Ko’a Kea. Book your stay today!
