A Study in White: Home Tour With Chad Dorsey Design

“When I first saw the space I was overwhelmed by the number of sitting areas that open into each other,” recalls interior designer Chad Dorsey, founder of eponymous firm in Los Angeles and Dallas, of a recent project for a couple in Dallas, Texas. “All of this made sense to keep the palette neutral while offering different types of seating experiences for friends and gatherings, but also for the couple to enjoy on their own.”

But, the 4,200-square-foot modern home, originally built in 1975, had previously undergone a series of odd remodels. Dorsey’s task was to elevate the design while making it warm and approachable. “The overall design captures the fun nature of the client by not taking things to seriously,” explains Dorsey of the approximately 90-day transformation. “But, it also has a level of sophistication that is chic and livable.”

In the living room, Dorsey selected a pair of Eames lounge chairs and ottomans with white leather from Herman Miller; vintage artwork from the 1970s; a Artemide Tolomeo Mega floor lamp in black and painted walls in Benjamin Moore’s OC-59 Vanilla Milkshake. “It’s my go-to,” says Dorsey.

Vintage artwork from the 1970s adds a pop of color in the living room.
High ceilings and varying shades of white add dimension in the space.

For the adjacent bar area, a vintage beveled mirror hangs above cabinetry topped with the Onda white tray from Room&Board.

Upstairs, a Leaning Steel mirror from the Chad Dorsey Collection anchors the seating area also lined with a pair of Aidan chairs in white leather and Hackney Bridge Arm floor lamps in bronze.

Across the stairwell, another cozy lounge area is appointed with a chaise lounge from Jonathan Adler, a vintage lucite table lamp, and a large-scale photograph by Ukranian duo Synchrodogs from Galleri Urbane.

The bright and crisp kitchen features countertops in “Blizzard” from Caesarstone and a backsplash lined with Aqua Verre Field Tile in “Stratos” from Ann Sacks. Additional elements include mahogany flooring; Lem Piston counter stools from DWR; and Jakob dining chairs from RH.
