What Patterns & Textures Are Trending Right Now?

Patterns and textures are powerful and have the ability to completely transform a space. Retro styles from the 70s and 80s continue to trend this year as well as all things nature. Give one or more of these trends a whirl and make your home the place where all the cool kids want to be!

Seventies Inspired

The 1970’s were a laidback era filled with interesting textures and patterns for lounging and having fun. Bring in the retro vibes with macrame wall hangings, high pile rugs with colorful geometric patterns and an eclectic mix of throw pillows in funky fabrics. Colors like orange, mustard, avocado green and ruby red will go far to drive home the 70s feel in whichever pattern you choose. Shag and wool flokati rugs feel great on bare feet and exude an instant hippy vibe.

Nature Galore

Because of the amount of time people are spending at home and the desire to be comforted by nature, this trend is here to stay for a while. Leafy, floral wallpapers are hot in entries, bathrooms and bedrooms. Try adding a large palm leaf print on one bedroom wall…or for those wanting less of a commitment with a bold pattern, try a bedspread or sheet set with a fern print or even a fun cactus pattern. A beautiful floral fabric looks great on dining room chairs that need to be recovered or a lounge chair in the living room. Frame a large scale piece of patterned floral paper or fabric for instant and low cost wall art. Add large houseplants in corners of rooms as living anchors that add dimension, texture and life to the space.

Bold and Colorful 1980s

1980s Memphis design patterns are everywhere. Saturated, bold colors, geometric shapes and those fun squiggly lines will liven up any space. Textiles are a great way to experiment with this style. Think abstract throw pillows, shower curtains, bedspreads and sheets. Don’t forget about little add-ons like dish towels or bath towels in ’80s patterns. Terrazzo also screams ’80s and can be incorporated through a terrazzo topped side table or a peel and stick wallpaper.
