Spring is a great time to take a deep dive into your cleaning routine. Cleaning and organizing can feel overwhelming, so tackling problem areas with definitive goals will yield better results.
To get started, focus on these four zones and be specific.
Kitchen
Under the sink is a common problem area. To start, remove everything, searching for multiples of the same item and half used bottles. Throw away old sponges and anything you haven’t used in over a year. Relocate rarely used items like pet cleaner to the garage or hall closet. Install a rolling pull-out storage shelf or a Lazy Susan to make the most of the space.
Bathroom
The trick to spring cleaning in the bathroom is parting with items you’ve collected along the way (hotel freebies) or have been given and never used. Consider donating some of these still usable items to a homeless shelter. Under the sink storage systems can help contain items like cleaning products. Clear bins and baskets work well for beauty, nails, dental needs, etc.
Laundry Room
Laundry bins and washing machines get musty and need regular maintenance and cleaning. Take a look at your washing machine manual and follow the instructions to give it a full cycle clean. Wipe down the inside of your laundry bin with an all-purpose cleaner. Don’t forget to clean behind your washer and dryer where dust bunnies accumulate. A good floor scrub is always satisfying in a high traffic laundry area.
Closet
There have been some BIG fashion shifts in the last year (permission granted to donate all those skinny jeans). Start with the messiest part of the closet and set a goal of getting rid of no less than three items. That way, if you end up with 20 items you are winning! Do you have limited space for hanging pants or jeans? Try a space saving pants hanger. T-shirts, sweaters and other folded items that can turn into a mess quickly can benefit from shelf dividers.
