Your Guide to the Quiet Luxury Home Decor Trend

In the fashion world, the ‘quiet luxury’ trend is synonymous with inconspicuous logos, clean lines, tailored pieces, and what some influencers call ‘elevated basics.’ But quiet luxury trends are not just for fashion—the style is trending in home design, too. But what exactly is quiet luxury at home, and how do you get the look?

What Is Quiet Luxury?

Though no official definition exists for this social media-driven trend, there are several terms being used to describe it: Understated elegance, effortless, subtle style, uncluttered, almost minimalist, neutral colors. It’s a room that feels luxurious, but without a lot of fuss. Think textiles like Egyptian cotton, furniture with clean lines, rugs that are plush but natural, and paint schemes that highlight beautiful architectural details.

How to Get the Quiet Luxury Look

When you’re shopping for your home, look for classic pieces with longevity. A solid wood or marble-topped dining table. Accent chairs and sofas that are made of natural textiles like linen and leather. Bedspreads in soft, washable cotton. Rugs made of sisal and wool. The trick is to keep things uncluttered and refined. Wall colors in neutral or muted shades will set the tone for classic furniture pieces you want to highlight.

  • Source high quality materials. Buy staple pieces for your home from trusted classic brands known for making products that last. Scour estate sales, Facebook Marketplace, and antique stores for secondhand classics. Don’t be afraid to buy old or vintage pieces. Quiet luxury doesn’t mean glamorous. It’s all about making your home feel lavish without looking extra.
  • Configure your spaces to highlight beautiful design. If you have large windows in a living room, set up your living space to maximize the light. That might mean leaving windows bare to really let the sunshine in or adding beautiful linen curtains that diffuse the light.
  • Choose a set of materials to use throughout your home seamlessly. Neutral ceramics, natural wood bowls, candlesticks, and clear vases set a minimalist yet refined tone.
  • Be thoughtful about lighting. Good lighting will make your home feel cozy and lush. Soft and diffused light is key. Large overhead lighting with clean light can bring this look to life, as well as using thoughtfully placed lamps that really glow.
  • Go light on the decor. Homes that have a quiet luxury tone are those that feel kind of like you’re staying in a hotel room—minimally furnished—yet comfortable and accessible.
