Baby nurseries have come a long way from their “pink is for girls” and “blue is for boys” days. Gender neutral design schemes are not only evolved but practical, too. They make the space more adult friendly (parents spend a lot of time there) and allow for flexibility in future transformation of the space.
1. Beige/Greige/Neutrals
Design pros will never tire of reminding us that neutral walls like beige, cream and gray equates to total freedom with accents and textiles. Don’t dismiss warm neutrals and tones like terracottas and pottery/plaster looks for walls that evoke an earthy, natural vibe.
2. Greens
Green’s spectrum is so diversified. From preppy kelly green, to serene sage green, and jungle inspired nature green—its range is absolutely universal. Green signifies the natural world and who doesn’t want their baby to feel wrapped up in love by mother nature?
3. Blues
Blue is the calming color of the sky, the sea and so many beautiful gemstones. Just about any variation of blue can work in a gender neutral nursery. Add life giving houseplants, variations of woods and metals, and you and baby will feel comforted and inspired.
4. Black and White
Babies can’t actually see vibrant colors until they are between 2-4 months old. Which is why a gender neutral black and white scheme could provide a comforting start for your little one. Like gray and beige, it affords flexibility later to add color pops (think sunny yellow ceilings). The still trending look of timeless black and white design is here to stay.
