Miami Mod: Beachy, Bright and Totally ‘80s

Even if you’ve never seen an episode of Miami Vice, look it up and relish the cool vibe of Sonny Crockett’s pink and turquoise blazers, the white Ferrari he and Ricardo Tubbs drove, and the bright neon signs of every bar they busted. Those scenes characterize the feel of Miami Mod. It’s beachy, bright and totally ‘80s. Here’s how to pull it off at your place.

Sunrise Sunset

At the heart of Miami and other famous beach cities is the sunrise and sunset. Colors of pink, orange, coral and gold shine in contrast to the blue, turquoise and aquamarine of the sea and sky. Use these color schemes in bold strokes with paint and decor and you’ll have a nice little slice of oceanfront paradise.

Supersize Art

Large scale art, be it a wall of painted palm leaves or a giant canvas, screams The Magic City. Go big and be creative with your version of Miami art. Think illustrations of colorful art deco architecture, a modern and abstract ocean or photography of beachgoers. High impact, high color and abstraction is how to get this feel.

Neon and Pink

Neon is so ‘80s and it fits right into the Miami vibe. Bright neon signs in either fun phrases or flirty objects never disappoint. Pink flamingos never go out of style in Miami, nor does any shade of pink, so go crazy with the pink flamingo wallpaper or the fuschia club chairs. Layer shades of pink with rugs, throw pillows and blankets.
