6 Steps to a More Organized Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the home and a place everyone loves to gather. A clean and well-organized kitchen makes cooking easier and more efficient.

Great Garbage

The kitchen probably produces more garbage and compost than any other space in the house. Set up a garbage and compost station that works. An under counter pull out bin will hide the yuck stuff. A small compost container with a lid can be stored on the counter or under the sink. Transfer it weekly to a bigger bin, ideally in the backyard or into a curbside pickup bin.

Good Lighting

New and remodeled kitchens likely have the kind of lighting that makes a space shine. But if your kitchen is dim, try undercabinet LED light strips to let the light in. They are easy to install and provide a more indirect source of light, that is especially nice in the evening when you want things less bright. Lamps also help illuminate a kitchen. Tuck one into a counter corner or in the middle of a kitchen island.

Remove Clutter

Counter spaces should be clear of clutter and bulky appliances that never get used. Pare down your kitchen items to those you use every day. The items that are used less than four times a year need to be stowed away.

Good Drawer Storage

Kitchen drawers get messy quickly and they need re-evaluation. Make sure all the essentials like silverware, dishtowels, foil and other food coverings are being stowed efficiently. Use small bins within drawers to corral like items and odd-sized pieces.
