One of the best parts of living in California is that you have just about every type of terrain you can imagine within a radius of a few hours. Oceans, mountains, canyons, metropolis, forest, and desert-like the Joshua Tree National Park. We keep finding ourselves coming back to the desert, enjoying the unique getaways it has to offer.
We stayed at the Rockbound Oasis Retreat on our last visit to the desert, a sprawling estate nestled among boulders, and overlooking the vast valley of Joshua Tree. The property is close to all of the conveniences of the neighboring towns, however, it feels completely remote and private.
Our favorite part of the Rockbound Oasis Retreat was the pool area, which was equipped with a cabana. The surrounding landscaping and giant boulders looming in the background made for quite the picturesque views.
Equipped with a spacious, open-concept living area, 3 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms (including an awesome soak tub!) the mid-century interiors were inviting and comfortable.
The property was built in 1954 by Helen and Everett Gray, who were true pioneers in post-war Joshua Tree. Just try not to make too much noise at night, especially since voices travel far in the quiet of the desert!
