The Not-So-Ordinary Ottoman: 3 Uses in a Small Space

Ottomans may seem ordinary but these functional foot stools are an essential in any apartment or small space. Chosen thoughtfully, ottomans can be the clever solution you need for storage, extra seating and more. The sky’s the limit in design, from leather and upholstery, to faux wood and wicker, these pieces might be the ultimate in form and function.

Ottoman Coffee Table

One of the smartest functions of an ottoman is its use as a coffee table. Square or round, leather or fabric, topped with the right tray or platter, it can contain books, candles and other decorative objects that wooden and glass tables would usually highlight.

Ottoman Seating

Fabric and jute poufs are sturdy enough to be called ottomans and work great as moveable seating. Add a pair opposite of two fixed lounge chairs for seating for extra company. If space allows, place a pair in the corner of the kitchen or dining room for extra seating when guests come over.

Ottoman Storage

Ottomans with lids and storage capacity have long been used to contain blankets, tech equipment like remote controls, and even toys. Store a couple under a console table in an entry or living room and pull them out at game or TV time.
