Singer-songwriters Brett Dennen, Katelyn Tarver and Parson James talk about life on the road and what it means to come home for the holidays to perform for family and friends.
Every artist feels an undeniable connection to the road. Drawn to the chaos and beauty of traveling city to city, revealing their most intimate creations, they collect even more stories and inspiration. But when the instruments are unplugged and the car is loaded up, the road always leads back home.
Sounds of the Road, presented by Toyota and SiriusXM, is a new series featuring intimate performances and interviews with emerging and established artists who are drawn to that journey of discovery. Each artist traveled to Malibu’s picturesque Cocoon House, designed by iconic LA architect Harry Gesner, via three new 2022 Toyota vehicles to perform for an intimate audience of family and friends—and reignite the magic and connection of being home for the holidays.
Born in Central California, Brett Dennen is an American folk music luminary with 7 critically acclaimed albums under his belt. Always tuning in to his musical influences, Brett performs the self-titled track from his latest album, See The World, and a stirring cover of the New Year’s classic “Auld Lang Syne”—all while sitting on the tailgate of the all-new hybrid 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited TRD Off-Road.
Living in Los Angeles but raised in Georgia, Katelyn Tarver is an actress and singer-songwriter who just released her second full-length album, Subject to Change, this fall. Traveling up PCH in a 2022 Camry Hybrid XSE while listening to some of her favorite artists, her performances include “When I Leave Home” and “Year From Now.”
Parson James, a soulful singer with gospel roots and pop sensibilities, hails from South Carolina but now calls Tennessee home. En route to Malibu in the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid XSE, he talks about his love of old-school hip-hop and R&B and performs his classic hit, “Waiting Game,” along with a new track titled “Steeple.”
