Nature lovers will rejoice in the sights to see, and the feelings evoked from this region that’s home to North America’s largest alpine lake. Even Mark Twain gushed about the beauty of the lake in his notorious prose “as it lay there with the shadows of the mountain brilliantly photographed upon its still surface, I thought it must surely be the fairest picture the whole earth affords.”
Where to stay:
It’s not a cabin, but the Coachman Hotel in South Lake Tahoe is a hip renovated motel with a modern, campy vibe. It’s centrally located in South Lake Tahoe, just a five-minute walk to Lakeside Beach and a 10-minute walk to the shops at Heavenly Village. The Coachman has a continental breakfast, seasonal pool, year-round hot tub, and first come first-serve bikes available to explore the area.
Where to eat:
Heavenly Village, with numerous shops and eateries, is a quick walk from the Coachman. Basecamp Pizza, Azul Latin Kitchen and Social House craft sandwiches are just a few spots to grab delicious food.
What to see:
- A trip to Tahoe is not complete without visiting the panoramic views of the lake at Emerald Bay State Park, just 12 miles north of South Lake Tahoe.
- The Gondola at Heavenly Village is a 2.4-mile ride with incredible views of the lake. Take in the view at the observation deck and then head back down for drinks near Heavenly Village.
