For Atlanta-based interior designer Jasmine Crockett, an eye for design came at an early age. After dipping her toes into the interior design world by helping her father, a general contractor, and later taking on small projects for friends, she took the full leap four years ago with the launch of her own firm, Joy Meets Home. Crockett sat down with us to talk about her knack for design, a recent girl’s bedroom project, and two of her easy design tips for transforming any space.
Thanks so much for taking time to chat with us. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Jasmine Crockett: “I am the founder and CEO of Joy Meets Home, a design firm based in Atlanta, Georgia, and Smply, an interior design concierge app and marketplace. I have been working as a designer for four years, and during this time, my team and I have had the pleasure of collaborating with clients from all over the country.

How did you get your start in interior design?
JC: “I’ve always had a passion for interior design, and I guess you could say it runs in the family. My dad is a general contractor, so growing up, I was surrounded by construction projects and the excitement of transforming spaces. It was like having a front-row seat to the magic of turning ideas into reality. As a little girl, I loved helping with my dad’s projects. It became a natural part of my childhood, and I found joy in the creative process of making a house feel like a home. I started experimenting with my own home and even took on projects for friends, showcasing my work on social media. The positive feedback and encouragement from those experiences gave me the push I needed to turn my passion into a full-fledged career. It felt incredible to see how design could impact not just the aesthetics of a space but also the way people felt in it. That’s when I decided to take the leap and launch into a career in interior design, blending my childhood love for construction projects with my own creative flair. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m thrilled to be doing what I love every day.”
What is most exciting or rewarding about your chosen career?
JC: “The most exciting and rewarding aspect of my career in interior design is the ability to turn dreams into reality and witness the joy on clients’ faces when they see their spaces transformed. From new builds to renovations, the diversity of projects keeps my work dynamic and challenges me to think creatively. The impact of a well-designed space on people’s lives, creating both aesthetically pleasing and functional environments, is incredibly fulfilling.”
What do you find most challenging about the type of work you do?
JC: “The primary challenge in my interior design work lies in effectively reconciling the clients’ vision with our design perspective and ensuring that it seamlessly aligns within specified budget constraints. Achieving harmony between these elements demands adept communication, a nuanced understanding of the client’s needs, and the creative finesse to make the design vision work within financial parameters. This delicate balancing act is an ongoing challenge, requiring flexibility and innovative problem-solving to create spaces that not only meet clients’ expectations but also adhere to their budgetary considerations.”
Tell us a bit about one of your most memorable projects.
JC: “One of the most memorable projects in my career was the opportunity to collaborate with my dad on the design and construction of my parents’ custom home. Serving as the designer on the project brought a unique set of challenges and rewards. Balancing the practical aspects of construction with my design vision was a fulfilling experience, and it allowed me to seamlessly integrate functional elements into the aesthetic vision for their dream home. This project showcased my design skills and strengthened my bond with my family, turning the process of building a home into a cherished and collaborative journey.”
Where do you look for inspiration?
JC: “I find inspiration in various places, from nature and travel to art and architecture. To collect and save inspiring images and items, I leverage digital platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram, curating boards, and collections that serve as visual mood boards. Additionally, I keep a physical inspiration journal where I sketch, jot down ideas, and include magazine clippings to capture the tactile essence of what sparks my creativity.”
Tell us about the featured project. How did it come across your desk? What made you decide to take it on?
JC: “The featured project, a little girl’s room transformation, came to my attention through a referral from a previous client who admired my work. The parents expressed a unique vision—they didn’t want a stereotypical ‘little girl’s room’ but a space that would evolve with their daughter as she grew. Intrigued by the challenge of creating a room that balanced youthful charm with long-term versatility, I decided to take on the project. The opportunity to design a space that would adapt to the girl’s changing tastes over the years while maintaining a sense of whimsy and playfulness was a creative challenge I eagerly embraced.”
If you had to create a tagline for this project, what would it be?
JC: “Enchanted Blooms.”
What words would you use to describe the vibe of the finished space?
JC: “The finished space emanates a timeless whimsy, seamlessly blending youthful playfulness with a touch of sophistication. It strikes a harmonious balance between a lively, cheerful atmosphere and a design that can gracefully evolve as the little girl grows.”
How did you approach the project? What were the steps involved in your creative process?
JC: “I began with thorough consultations to understand the vision of both the child and her parents. I then crafted a conceptual design, blending current interests with timeless elements. Collaborative refinements were made through mood boards and sketches. The execution phase involved sourcing adaptable furnishings, coordinating textures, and adding personalized touches to achieve the envisioned balance between whimsy and sophistication in the little girl’s room.”
What aspects of this project were most rewarding to you?
JC: “Seamlessly translating the client’s vision into a versatile yet charming space and witnessing the child’s joy as she embraced her transformed room.”
What are your favorite details or elements of this design?
JC: “The carefully selected wallpaper, which adds a whimsical and personalized touch, creating a focal point that anchors the entire space with charm and character.”
What ideas or tips can our readers take from this project and apply to their space?
JC: “Consider adaptable design elements that grow with a child’s evolving tastes. Incorporate personalized touches like unique wallpaper or artwork to infuse character. Maintain a balance between playful aesthetics and timeless design to ensure longevity in their own spaces.”
Can you share one tip or hack that only a designer will tell you?
JC: “Never underestimate the wonders of paint or wallpaper. These versatile tools can effortlessly breathe new life into a space, creating instant personality and style. Opt for bold accent walls or experiment with patterns to achieve a dramatic change without a major overhaul. It’s the designer’s secret weapon for a swift and visually striking makeover.”
