The pandemic has forced us to adapt to new ways of living in all areas of life, especially at home. Masks and other items that keep us safe and healthy need a place of their own that’s functional and attractive too.
Create a Pandemic Supply Zone
Designate a specific area for your supplies preferably near the entry door or where you already keep keys and sunglasses. Claim a pandemic supply drop zone on a bookshelf, buffet or console table and elevate the way these odds and ends look by storing them in style. Transfer hand sanitizer into a pretty hand pump soap vessel and stash reusable masks in a decorative woven basket or large ceramic bowl. Store mini tissue packages and extra small sized bottles of hand sanitizer and eyeglass defogger in a basket so you can easily grab them on the go when you’re running low in the car. If you don’t have a space right near the door, add an over the door plastic shoe organizer on the inside of the coat closet to store each item in their own little unit. Or stash in clear drawers atop a shelf in the closet so you can quickly see what’s inside.
Healthy Handwashing
Don’t overlook the bathroom. When guests come over they want to know that the hand towels are clean. Invest in a few packages of decorative disposable dinner napkins that match your bathroom decor. Keep a pretty basket on a shelf for the disposables or buy extra cloth hand towels, roll them up and use them only when guests visit. Keep hand soap low contact with a liquid pump style dispenser.
Clean Up the Floor
In many Eastern countries, removing shoes at the door is a ritual that is intended to create positive energy in the home. Pandemic life has been taxing enough, so why not adopt an approach that will keep your home healthier and cleaner. If a shoeless approach is a no-go in your home, try adding a washable rug to your entry space, kitchen and living areas with high traffic. These lightweight rugs can be thrown in the washer on the regular and given new life.
