We spend a lot of time doing laundry – a task many of us dread. But what if you created a space that made this chore easier and more organized? Try these tips for a smooth laundry experience.
- Add a shelf with rod support or a fold out hanging rack attached to the wall. Use the empty space above your washer and dryer to hang clothes for drying.
- Create an accent wall. Choose a wall and add a bold color or patterned wallpaper to add interest and dimension to your laundry space.
- Install a countertop. Depending on your room arrangement, you can add a counter over the washer or dryer or on an adjacent wall. Having a space to fold laundry will increase your efficiency and help you stay organized
- Create a sorting area with baskets or bins. No one likes to sort socks, especially when the mates go missing. Set up a sorting station with baskets on shelves so you can place folded clean laundry, or just corral socks for pairing up later.
- Elevate your cleaning essentials. Give your detergents the royal treatment. Transfer them in beautiful bulk containers to show their beauty and make them more easily accessible. Put wool dryer balls and stain removers in compartments on a shelf right near the washer for easy access.
- Hang a dry erase board above the washer, to make notes about the loads in progress or care instructions like “don’t put in dryer, hang dry please,” so no one ends up with a shirt that shrunk!
Create a rag zone. Dirty dish towels or rags you use to clean odds and ends are wet and gross. Give them their own special bin so you can wash them in separate loads out of the mix of everyday clothes and bath towels.
