Back in Black: How to Use the Color Black at Home

Cue the AC/DC and welcome back black into the home. Black accent walls, cabinets and more are trending in the design world. Read on to see 3 ways you can incorporate this bold color into your space.

1. Kitchen

While white kitchens will always be a classic, black cabinets are making a mark on the design world. Simple, elegant and inviting, a black kitchen works beautifully with brass accents and can be modern, traditional, or anything in between. It’s a bold choice that stands out from the pack and makes a huge statement.

2. Ceilings & Walls

If you have high ceilings sometimes a room can feel cold. By adding black paint, it will visually lower it and make everything feel closer together. Want to add drama to a smaller enclosed space? Try black in the bathroom or a hallway (peel and stick wallpaper if you are a renter), and add in robust lighting and other vibrant colors to pump up the ambiance of the walls.

3. Doors, Trim & Fireplaces

Black is bold and may be too much for those who still like white or neutral walls, but there are other ways to bring it to life. Add high impact contrast to interiors by painting doors and windows black. Try it on a brick fireplace or wall paneling (common in older basements). When the walls are white or neutral, adding in other pieces of furniture or decor that are black will pull the room together.
